    The Role

    Lumen is seeking early-career or second-career self-starters who are self-motivated with high technical aptitude and an interest in a Field Technician role as part of our talents Field Operations and Network Implementation team.

    You will participate in our Field Ops Academy which is a robust 4-5-week training program to jump-start and enable your success in this role. This rigorous program is designed to develop tech-savvy individuals in the areas of network operations, IP, and customer care where you will learn about our technology, networks, products, processes, and customer service best practices.

    Field Technician I is an entry level position within the North America Operations organization. This position involves basic level installation, decommissioning and troubleshooting problems of network equipment and circuits. Responsible for preventative and demand maintenance of the network, critical infrastructure, materials management, and becomes familiar with the company's systems and applications. In some instances, may be responsible for the outside plant network in a given geographic boundary, including metro and long-haul fibers.

    The Main Responsibilities

    • Responsible for asset management: processes deliveries and replenishes consumables as well as coordinates shipping and receiving of materials.
    • Maintains tools, test sets, and electronic equipment including, but not limited to: fiber optic transmission equipment, lightwave multiplexing equipment, AC and DC power equipment.
    • Assists in installs, provisions, tests, and maintains DS0 thru OC192 services. May install and test transmission/switching equipment.
    • Troubleshoots network equipment, removes and replaces defective modules, tracks spares and ensures repair.
    • Monitors/locates route and assists in executing restoration in the event of a service interruption, proactively responds to potential problem areas in order to ensure integrity of the network.
    • Responsible for learning all of the systems and applications required to perform the job function adequately.
    • Updates installation records, enters appropriate detailed log information on trouble tickets for reference, and provides reports to others on status updates and issues related to assignments.
    • Performs preventive/scheduled maintenance and inspections on equipment and on the critical infrastructure including, but not limited to: HVAC systems, high-voltage electrical systems, DC Power Plants

    What We Look For in a Candidate

    • High School Diploma or GED or up to 2 years of relevant job experience including 1+ years network monitoring, installation, or maintenance/repair.
    • Entry-level technician with experience and/or knowledge of at least one of the four major technician disciplines: Transmission (DS1/DS3/SONET), Switching (circuit-switching/SS7), TCP/IP (routers/higher-layer protocols), and Outside Plant (Fiber locating, OTDR, Mass Fusion Splicing, etc.).
    • Have knowledge of locating fiber optic cable, right-of-way, and As-Builts.
    • Must maintain site security and cleanliness.
    • Must have PC skills and be well versed in Microsoft Windows and Office applications.
    • Must possess the ability to quickly learn corporate databases.
    • On-call 24x7 on a rotational basis, on stand-by, call out, dispatch, and overtime are required as dictated by the business.

    Job Description

    We have an opportunity for a Construction Materials Technician II to join our team in Tempe, AZ. Our Construction Materials Technician II will perform various laboratory testing on construction materials such as soils, concrete, masonry, and asphalt. You will tabulate, prepare and submit reports as work is performed and communicate with Project Managers and other key stakeholders regarding testing results. Testing is performed in our in-house Terracon laboratory. You will have the opportunity to travel to mobile labs and perform testing on special projects. Successful candidates will receive in-depth technical training and professional certifications as they advance in the position.

    Essential Role and Responsibilities:

    Perform testing in accordance with standard methods for soils, aggregates, concrete, masonry and asphalt.

    Prepare clear documentation of test data using paper forms and on laptop or tablet device; submit findings in accordance with standard test methods to the project manager.

    Effectively communicate testing and inspection results, verbally and in writing.

    Develop skills and talents to take on progressively increasing roles of responsibility in work assignments.

    Ensure that all assigned testing equipment and tools are properly calibrated and maintained.

    Follow safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects. Performs pre-task planning prior to executing work. Reports any safety issues or concerns to management.

    Maintain quality standards on all projects.

    Requirements:

    High school diploma or equivalent

    6 months experience required.

    Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history

    Preferred Requirements:

    Minimum 1-2 years of relevant experience or the equivalent in training and related experience

    Experienced and effective with laptop computer use such as Microsoft Word and Excel

    ACI certification in one or more of the following areas:

    ATTI Asphalt or Soils and Aggregates

    Concrete Strength Testing Technician

    Certifications in one or more of the following areas:

    NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing in one or more of the following categories: Asphalt, Concrete, Soils.

    NICET Level II certification in Geotechnical in one or more of the following categories: Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist

    ACI Laboratory Masonry Testing.

    ACI Field Grade 1

    ACI Laboratory Testing Technician 1

    Successful completion of related internal safety and technical certifications

    Other national, regional, state, and local Materials related certifications requiring experience and written examination will also be considered if deemed appropriate by the Terracon Department Manager.
