The City of Chandler Community Services Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Librarianwho will oversee the library’s makerspace, The Makery. This is a regular full-time, exempt position with benefits.

Work Schedule:
The library is open seven (7) days/week. The schedule includes nights and weekends.

Chandler Public Library inspires intellectual discovery, creative entertainment, and life-long learning through robust information resources that connect communities to a world of k knowledge and new ideas. As a system of four libraries in all geographic areas of the community, and collection of nearly 500,000 books, DVDs, and a wide variety of digital resources, we bring people, information, and ideas together to read, learn, connect, and succeed. Our libraries continuously reflect on the current and emerging needs of patrons and choose to advance literacy and champion inclusive learning experience for all people by fostering accessibility and embracing new technology.

Who we are looking for
Our new team member will have a passion for customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. We are looking for someone who will oversee our maker space.

Essential Functions:
1. Supervises assigned staff and/or volunteers by setting goals and objectives, manages schedules and work priorities, monitors and evaluates performance, facilitates access to resources and training, provides guidance and addresses issues, conducts interviews and makes hiring decisions.
2. Participates in the provision of public library services and programs in collaboration with the library leadership team, reflecting the values and principles of professional librarianship.
3. Responds to the informational needs of the patrons; answers reader’s advisory and reference questions; conducts community outreach events; offers insight into the development of promotional materials; gives presentations to community groups and meetings to promote programs and services.
4. Attends meetings and contributes information and data related to area of assignment.
5. Enters, prepares, and communicates statistics for assigned programs.

Minimum qualifications


Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science or related field; andThree (3) years paraprofessional library experience; including one (1) year of previous supervisory experience; andValid Arizona Driver’s License with acceptable driving record; orAny equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Desired qualifications


Master’s Degree in Library Science

This is a full-time position and is subject to a six (6) month probationary period. A register of qualified candidates will be active for four (4) months should another position become available.

The City of Chandler will conduct a pre-employment DOT drug and alcohol test and a driving record check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results. All applicants hired will be required to be fingerprinted with successful results as a condition of continued employment.

These policies have not been altered by the passage of Proposition 207. The use of recreational marijuana is a violation of the City’s Drug Free Workplace Policy. Certain positions within the city are required to submit to a pre-employment drug test. A positive result for drugs tested under the policy, including recreational marijuana, may be grounds for withdrawal of an offer of employment or volunteer opportunity. The examination process may vary if determined necessary.
