Librarian (Regular Part-Time, Benefited)

The City of Chandler Library Division is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Librarian Regular Part-time. This is a regular part-time, exempt position with benefits. The location will be at the Downtown Library Branch. The Downtown Library is open seven (7) days and three (3) evenings per week. This a 20-hour position with a schedule that includes nights and weekends.

Work Schedule:
A weekly schedule that includes one (1) evening per week and one (1) weekend per month.

Who we are looking for
Our new team member will have a passion for customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. We are looking for someone with excellent customer service and library programming skills.

Essential Functions:
1. Supervises assigned staff and/or volunteers by setting goals and objectives, manages schedules and work priorities, monitors and evaluates performance, facilitates access to resources and training, provides guidance and addresses issues, conducts interviews and makes hiring decisions.
2. Participates in the provision of public library services and programs in collaboration with the library leadership team, reflecting the values and principles of professional librarianship.
3. Responds to the informational needs of the patrons; answers reader’s advisory and reference questions; conducts community outreach events; offers insight into the development of promotional materials; gives presentations to community groups and meetings to promote programs and services.
4. Attends meetings and contributes information and data related to area of assignment.
5. Enters, prepares, and communicates statistics for assigned programs.

Minimum qualifications


Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science or related field; andThree (3) years paraprofessional library experience; including one (1) year of previous supervisory experience; andValid Arizona Driver’s License with acceptable driving record; orAny equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Desired qualifications


Master’s Degree in Library Science

This is a regular part-time position, subject to a six (6) month probationary period. A register of qualified candidates will be active for four (4) months should another position become available.

The City of Chandler will conduct a pre-employment background check and a MVRRS (Motor Vehicle Record Request System) check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results.

These policies have not been altered by the passage of Proposition 207. The use of recreational marijuana is a violation of the City’s Drug Free Workplace Policy. A positive result for drugs tested under the policy, including recreational marijuana, may be grounds for withdrawal of an offer of employment or volunteer opportunity.
