Job Description
Postdoctoral Scholar: Quantum Optics/Optomechanics.
The Behunin group seeks an energetic postdoctoral scholar to help develop new spin-optomechanical systems. The Postdoctoral Scholar will; (1) perform spectroscopy on optomechanical devices, (2) operate cryostats, (3) develop new optical coupling techniques, (4) simulate device physics, and (5) help oversee graduate research assistants. The position term will be for 1 year, and renewable for up to two more years based on performance.
Research - 75%
• Experiment design and simulation.
• Measurements including heterodyne, radio frequency, and optical spectroscopy.
• Coding control and automation of experiments.
• Analysis of data.
Writing/Presenting/Reporting - 10%
• Writing scientific articles.
• Presenting results at conferences, seminars, or colloquia.
• Provide assistance to PI for reporting purposes.
Mentorship - 10%
• Provide guidance for graduate and undergraduate research assistants.
Other - 5%
• Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• Doctoral degree in physics, optics or optical engineering by date of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications
• The ideal candidate will have one or more of the listed expertise:
• Classical and/or quantum optics
• Cryogenics
• Experimental optomechanics
• Demonstrated excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with experiment automation.
• Precision optical detection including but not limited to balanced homodyne and heterodyne detection.
• Expertise with VNAs, AWGs, and radiofrequency characterization.
• Knowledge of color center physics.
• Optical simulation, e.g., comsol, zemax.
• Experience operating cryogenic systems including closed cycle cryostats and dilution refirgerators.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge
• Knowledge of physics, quantum physics and optics.
• Knowledge of the use of laboratory/field instruments and tools.
• Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the subject disciplines.
Skills
• Skilled in experimental optical physics, fiber optics, precision optical detection, and cryogenics.

Background Information

Salary
Anticipated salary range is $60,800 to $64,800. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
FLSA Status
This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.
Benefits
Post-Doctoral Scholars are hired on a contract basis, renewable each fiscal year for a maximum of 4 renewals (5 years) according to terms of the Arizona Board of Regents' http://azregents.asu.edu/rrc/Policy%20Manual/6-310-Conditions%20of%20Postdoctoral%20Scholar%20Service.pdf. NAU offers an excellent benefit package to Post-Doctoral Scholars including generous health, dental and vision insurance; 10 days of vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified family members. New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. Participation in NAU retirement plans is not available to Post-Doctoral Scholars.
