Our Miami smelter and rod plant is nestled just 90 miles east of Phoenix. The smelter processes copper concentrate primarily from our company’s Arizona copper mines and is the most significant source of sulphuric acid for our North American leaching operations. **Description**

Under general supervision, supervise, coordinate and control the safe and efficient operation of an assigned work unit through subordinate Supervisors.

+ Ensure continued operations of production shifts through execution of the production plan and schedules

+ Provide Operations input for production and maintenance planning

+ Ensure adherence to correct safety and operating procedures and compliance with appropriated federal and state laws and regulations

+ Inspect assigned work units to ensure schedules and objectives are attained

+ Coordinate daily with other Operational and staff areas, including but not limited to Maintenance, Processing, Engineering, Safety, Environmental, and Sales

+ Directly supervise first-line or shift Supervisors

+ Perform other duties as required

**Qualifications**

**Minimum Qualifications**

+ High School diploma or GED **and** seven (7) years of related operational experience, including supervisory or lead experience, **OR**

+ Bachelor's degree in a technical mining related discipline **and** three (3) years of operational experience, including supervisory or lead experience

+ Additional certifications or licensure appropriate to the job may be required

+ Knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques

+ Skilled in resolving day-to-day questions/problems regarding equipment, materials, methods and procedures needed to complete projects

+ Skilled in budget preparation, monitoring and administration

+ Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions

+ Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards

+ Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

**Preferred**

+ Detailed understanding and application of standardizes documentation for PLC and HMI design specification

+ Detailed understanding and application of process optimization programs, corrects problems, and improves tuning

+ Detailed understanding and application of the network design

+ Detailed understanding and application of inter-device communication specifications

+ Detailed understanding and application of designs for industrial networks

+ Detailed understanding and application of vendor software packages, example: Automation Builder,

+ Utilizes data from the historian to identify/troubleshoot problems

+ Is able to create/modify basic historical data points

+ Understands in detail the types of data compression/archive methods

+ Leads safety discussions

+ Coordinates with operations staff on a daily basis to understand their problems and update them on PA progress

+ Coordinates with E+I staff to identify problems

+ Coordinates shutdown activities for PA

+ Coordinates with MIS to identify problems with the PCN

+ Mentors junior engineers and technicians in many competency areas

+ Manages and provides project support for conceptual design of plants and improvement projects

**Criteria/Conditions**

+ Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English

+ Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards

+ Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment

+ Work is in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles

+ While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see

+ Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 30 pounds) during the course of the workday

+ Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, or manufacturing plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required

+ Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing as per applicable State Laws

**What We Offer You**

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently **$98,000-$137,000** . This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.
