PAID INTERNSHIP: $20.00/Hour

Target 11-week Internship Dates: 5/19/25 – 7/31/25

(4-10 work schedule M-Th 6:30am - 5:00pm) Some flexibility with scheduled hours. May have the opportunity for one day a week remote work (conditions apply).

The purpose of this internship is for an individual to contribute towards the Finance Department’s responsibility to provide oversight and accountability of the District’s finances. The Department is responsible for all financial-related activities within CAP. The focus will be on budget development and forecasting, long-range financial planning, accounts receivable, and reserve planning. Financial oversight and reporting on capital improvement/Extraordinary Maintenance projects and power and transmission will also occur.

This internship will provide opportunities to work side-by-side with Finance staff, analyze revenue and expense data, coordinate with CAP staff during budget development and quarterly forecasting, and to attend site visits with an assigned mentor. The goal of the internship is to provide relevant experience that could potentially lead to a career in the public sector.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

+ Support Finance staff in biennial budget development and with quarterly forecasting.

+ Become familiar with various financial analysis and forecasting techniques, including financial modeling and financial performance.

+ Assist with identifying and resolving budget and forecast discrepancies.

+ Conduct research and develop analytical models.

+ Continually assess and enhance critical thinking and leadership skills.

+ Work independently to gather, evaluate, and analyze information for an assigned project. (Deliverables may be incorporated into a larger work product that Finance produces)

At end of the 11-week engagement, intern will prepare and deliver a capstone presentation including:

+ A summary of work completed.

+ Key takeaways & lessons learned.

+ An evaluation of the internship experience at CAP, and within Finance.

+ Recommendations for future interns.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

+ Junior or higher-level student (or recent grad) majoring in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Public Administration, or related field (may be an undergraduate or graduate student).

+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Power Point, Publisher, Teams, etc.).

+ Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

+ Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

+ Ability to review financial and technical documents for accuracy.

+ Ability to multi-task, adapt to various personality types, and function in a rapidly moving multi-disciplinary environment.

+ Must submit transcripts (unofficial or official) with the online application.

+ Must be legally authorized to work a paid internship in the United States.
