Job Description

The Health Educator, Intermediate is a grant funded position that is part of NAU's Substance Abuse Block Grant, funded by Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS). The focus of the grant is on the primary prevention of substance misuse among college students. This position will execute a comprehensive strategy to promote health across all levels of the socio-ecological model with a focus on increasing protective factors and reducing risk factors associated with high-risk substance use. The Health Educator, Intermediate will be responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating evidence-informed strategies, programs and services that will reduce unwanted health outcomes related to substance misuse and mental wellbeing. This position will work closely with key campus partners such as Fraternity and Sorority Life and Campus Living to provide educational workshops, create educational materials and mobilize the community. This position will also assist in planning and implementing substance free social events. The Health Educator, Intermediate will assist the project lead in achieving stated deliverables as required by the grant.

This position reports to the Director of Health Promotion.

Program Planning, Implementation and Evaluation - 60%

• Reviews professional literature and data.
• Conducts needs assessments.
• Plans, implements and evaluates effective primary prevention efforts.
• Creates effective prevention campaigns and educational materials.
• Develops and delivers health education workshops.
• Assists in developing and implementing substance free social events.
• Assesses effectiveness of prevention efforts using quantitative and qualitative measures.
• Shares data and program outcomes.
• Supervises student interns and volunteers.

Collaboration - 20%

• Works closely with student organizations.
• Engages stakeholder groups.
• Establishes and maintains good working relationships with campus partners.
• Hosts focus groups and listening sessions.
• Attends committee meetings.

Advocacy - 15%

• Assists student groups and internal departments in reviewing policies and procedures related to substance misuse.
• Makes recommendations for changes to policies and procedures to reduce substance misuse and abuse.

Other - 5%

• Assists in grant management and reporting activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Health Education or related field.
• 2-4 years of relevant experience.
• Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Health Education Specialist.
• Experience working with college students.

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. Salary

Salary range begins at $58,882. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position.
