Space Systems is currently searching for a Consulting Engineer- Propulsion to join the Propulsion team with the Launch Vehicles business unit in Chandler, AZ.

The Consulting Engineer- Propulsion will be the **Subject Matter Expert for Solid Rocket Motors** and will play a key role in support of Solid Rocket Motor (SRM) development and production efforts across the entire Launch Vehicle product line, including one or more of the following activities: requirements definition; initial sizing (i.e. propulsion system architecture); production support in coordination with SRM suppliers and government agencies; vehicle performance assessments (data analysis); mission support including support of pre-launch and post-launch engineering products; support of anomaly/failure investigations, and presentations to upper management.

This role interfaces directly with the local engineering team as well as suppliers and customers. Subject matter expertise is a must. Direct experience at a solid rocket motor manufacturer is required, including first-hand experience with propellant formulation, tooling design, and a wide spectrum of production challenges. A solid background in SRM performance prediction and validation is also required. Technical oversight, issue resolution, schedule preservation, and subject-matter mentoring are all key components of this position.

Some travel required (up to 25%).

**Basic Qualifications**

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 16 years of related experience or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 14 years of experience, or a PhD and 12 years of experience.

**Position requires 100% on-site presence.**

Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD security

clearance (SECRET or higher)

Ability to work in a team environment, and influence organizations that report to others

Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present to large customer community.

Ability to solve problems, lead troubleshooting efforts, drive tasks to completion

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple concurrent projects and priorities

Ability to develop trade studies, present results to senior management, and recommend Courses of Action (COAs)

Self-starter who can drive technical decisions.

U.S Citizenship.

Ability to travel 25%.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

Significant profession experience with established solid rocket motor supplier (e.g. Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems, Aerojet Rocketdyne, etc.)

Bachelor or Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or related engineering field

Active DoD Secret security clearance preferred

Project management experience preferred

Requirements definition and system architecture experience preferred

First-hand SRM manufacturing experience preferred

Liquid propulsion or hypersonics experience is a plus

Supplier management experience a plus

**Salary Range:** $178,600 - $268,000

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
